National Council Rule

Rule 22#

  • The national council shall consist of members elected at the rate of 50 members of the respective units plus a major fraction there of in the manner approved by the national executive committee.
  • There shall be a national executive committee not more than 21 members including the president, 2 vice presidents, a Secretary Genral, a Treasurer and 4 Secretaries.
  • The President and the Secretary-General shall be electeeed by the primary member by secret ballet and simple majority
  • Two Vice Presidents, four secretaries, the treasurer and other members of the national executive committee shall be electeeed by the members of the national executive committee at delegate session
  • Election of the members of the national executive committee shall be proportional representation, single traferrable vote system.
  • Subject to clause (a) supra, the national executive committee shall co-opt four members after the election in the manner it thinks best gives representation to interests which may go otherwise unrepresented.

Rule 23#

Vacancies in the national executive committee shall be filled by national executive committee and vanancies in the national council shall be filled by executive of the state unions concerned.

Rule 24#

A meeting of the national council is constitutional and valid , if it called by Secretary-General or by one of the Secretaries with the approval in writing, in either case in consultation with and approval of the President.

Rule 26#

The National Council shall meet as and when necessary provided that at least one meeting is held one year

Delegate Conference

Rule 29#

The delegates' conference of the Union constituting its Plenary Session shall transact the following business:

To read and confirm the minutes of the previous delegates' conference

To consider and adopt the report and audited balanced sheets for the relevant years.

To take stock of the work the union and devise plans and programmes

Rule 30#

One month's notice of delegates' conference and 15 days notice of special conference shall be given to members.

Rule35#

The delegates' conference shall meet after the end of two years but in any case not later than 30 months from the date of previous session.

The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) hailed the Judgment of the Supreme Court quashing the draconian Section 66 A of the Information Technology Act which was misused by several state government to stifle expression of dissent against the ruling establishments.

Union Calls on government and employer to support widow's family

The Indian Journalists Union (IJU), the premier and most representative organisation of the working journalists in the country, welcomed the recommendation of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India(TRAI) for single Regulatory Authority for print and electronic media.

A statement issued in New Delhi, the IJU President S N Sinha, Secretary General Devulapalli Amar, expressed happiness over the Supreme Court Judgment saying it was a clear victory for working journalists and other newspaper employees, in their long-drawn battle. The two urged upon the Central and State Government to ensure speedy implementation of the Supreme Court order.
